Greater NC Rocket Community:

Plans are finally set for the first official low power rocket launch sponsored by TRA East NC in many, MANY years.? The date has been set for Saturday, February 1, 2014 (rain date Sunday, February 2, 2014), and the location is the Butner Beef Cattle Field Laboratory, affiliated with NCSU.? The date for this first event was chosen to fall one week after the Astronomy Days event at the Museum of Life and Sciences, to take advantage of any interest generated by our interaction with families from the Triangle area at that event. Launch Report, Bayboro, January 18-19, 2014

The weather was cold and windy so I didn?t expect much in the way of attendance, but we had a number of academic teams scheduled to show up and make test flights, so I packed up the truck and drove to Bayboro.? Launch Report, Bayboro, December 21, 2013

We have never scheduled a launch as late as the weekend of December 21-22 before, so I didn?t know exactly what to expect in the way of turnout.? Would everybody stay home and prepare for the Christmas holidays, or would the unexpectedly balmy weather bring out the flyers for one last good flying weekend before the serious winter arrived?

In the end, there was a great turnout on Saturday, 8 registered adults and at least 10 kids, and a total of 62 flights.?? We will look at a small motor use summary and then describe some details. Continue reading →
