Launch Report, Bayboro, November 16-17, 2013

This was one of those weekends that starts off under very uncertain weather forecasts and ends up being one of the finest weekends for any sort of outdoor activity that any of us has ever experienced.? I left Chapel Hill before dawn on Saturday in rain, heavy mists and fog, and ill-tempered gusts of wind.? The weather remained un-promising all the way to Grantsboro:? I crossed the Tar River at little Washington in fog so thick I couldn?t see the river.? I got to the field, we unloaded the trailer and set up the launch equipment and proceeded to prep rockets for the rest of the morning.? Continue reading

In addition, there is the possibility that we will have the use of a low-power field near Butner, NC, [very close to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area] and I want to stick in a tentative schedule for that ?event?.?? We don?t have written permission to use the field, yet, so this scheduling is an attempt to give the owners an idea of when we would like to hold launches there, if there is sufficient interest.? This field is adequate only for up to F motors, perhaps G if the rocket is big and ?draggy? enough.

August 23

Launch Report, Bayboro, October 26, 2013

We had a total of twelve flyers and thirty seven flights. The day reminded me of the launches many years ago at Whitakers. Motors ranged from As through Ms with a high percentage of high-power flights. Mixing research and commercial motors seems to be bringing more people out to the launches!

The soybeans to the east of New Ditch Farm Road were being harvested as we were flying. We should be able to return to our normal launch site east of the road at the launch in November. Continue reading
